Arabian Knights coat of arms — winged shield with crown, sword, and the AK monogram

Hall of Honor

The roll of pilots whose handle ends in + — the squad's traditional mark of Hall of Honor membership. A two-year commitment, a nomination by a fellow member, and a unanimous vote earn the honor. The honor is for life.

Purpose

The purpose of the Hall of Honor is to recognize the loyalty and longevity of our veterans. Some of our veterans are still around, giving whatever they can to the AK's, but many are retired and don't have enough time in their busy lives to continue to play a major role. To all of our veterans — whether you were active during the rise, the fall, the aftermath, or the re-birth of the Arabian Knights — we owe you our thanks and our respect, and to that end we take off our hats and salute you.

Heritage

The Hall of Honor itself was born from AKSkyNymph+ ("Sea") — a counselor of sorts for the AK's whose opinion was very highly regarded by everyone, and who personally placed great importance on the bonds between AK members. The original Hall was formed by AKCobra+ (founding CO), AKMadMass+, and AKSkyNymph+ herself — the three of whom established the squad on the GEnie network in 1992 and later on TSN.

Later additions came in waves: the founding TSN flight (AKCleanKill+, AKFlyerFan+, AKDingo+, AKSkyVirus+, AKGriz+, AKNob+, AKJoJo+, AKSkinner+, AKHeadHunter+ — the first non-GEnie pilot ever inducted — and AKSixpack+); the original GEnie members (AKMalachi+ the original XO, AKWired+, AKOldMan+, AKSera+); and a "second wave" starting with AKcurly+, whose induction on August 15, 1999 opened the modern era of the Hall.

Governance Roles

Beyond the honor itself, the Hall holds two formal duties within the squadron:

  • Highest-medal sign-off. Recommendations for the squadron's top awards — the Distinguished Service Medal (DSM), the Distinguished Service Cross (DSC), and the AK Medal of Honor (AKMoH) — are submitted to the HoH Chairperson for sign-off.
  • BCO removal vote. The Brigade Commanding Officer may only be removed from office by a 75% vote of the Hall of Honor members.

These provisions come from the squadron policies and general guidelines as preserved in the legacy archive — the HoH's standing role in squadron governance is a structural one.

Eligibility

Arabian Knight members who are actively and honorably involved within the AK organization for two years shall become eligible for the Arabian Knights' Hall of Honor.

For Hall of Honor eligibility a member must have:

  1. A two-year continuous active involvement, from the AK's DOE (Date of Entrance), and is in good standing within the organization.
  2. A nomination by another member.
  3. A unanimous vote from all active and responding HoH members.

Early induction / special circumstances:

Special circumstances pertain to those members who demonstrate above-and-beyond commitment, outstanding display of character, and extreme loyalty. A member may be inducted prior to their DOE provided that:

  1. A HoH member has nominated the inductee for early induction.
  2. A formal meeting of the HoH is held and a unanimous vote to admit the new inductee, prior to the DOE.

Once all requirements have been met, the newly adopted non-member shall partake in an induction ceremony, held following a regularly scheduled AK Brigade meeting. The HoH Chairperson must be present during the ceremony to finalize the Hall of Honor status, or be represented by the senior-most HoH member present.

Please submit all nominations to the HoH Chairperson(s). Policy text adapted from the original agreement dated March 17, 2009.
