Install AK as an App

The squad site supports Progressive Web App (PWA) install — you can put an AK icon on your desktop or home screen and the site opens in its own window (no address bar, no tabs), full-screen, with the squad accent for the title bar. It's still the same website, same login, same data — just packaged as if it were a real app.

What you get

  • An AK icon on your desktop / Start menu / home screen / app drawer.
  • A standalone window when launched — no browser address bar, no tabs, no extension toolbar.
  • Faster startup than opening a browser, navigating to a bookmark, and waiting for full chrome to render.
  • The orange AK accent color around the title bar / status bar (instead of your browser's default).
  • Same login, same forum, same killboard — it is the website, just in a different frame.

Is anything actually installed?

No executable, no native code, no .exe or .apk. PWA install creates a desktop shortcut and a separate browser-window profile. Your operating system thinks of it as an "app" for convenience, but it's still served from aksquad.net over HTTPS by your normal browser engine. There's nothing to clean up if you change your mind — uninstall is one right-click.

Install instructions by platform

Some browsers also pop a banner asking if you want to install — but you don't have to wait for it, you can install manually any time from the steps below.

🪟   Windows / Mac / Linux desktop

Chrome or Edge
  1. Visit any page on aksquad.net
  2. Look in the URL bar (right end) for a small install icon (⊕ or a monitor with a down-arrow) — click it
  3. Or from the menu: ⋮ → Install Arabian Knights (Chrome) or ⋯ → Apps → Install this site as an app (Edge)
  4. Confirm in the dialog

Firefox doesn't support PWA install on desktop — use Chrome or Edge.

🤖   Android

Chrome (recommended)
  1. Open aksquad.net in Chrome
  2. Tap the ⋮ menu (top-right)
  3. Tap Install app or Add to Home screen (wording varies by Chrome version)
  4. Confirm
Samsung Internet
  1. Tap the ☰ menu
  2. Tap Add page to → Home screen

After install, the auto-prompt may also appear on subsequent visits. If it doesn't, the menu route always works.

🍎   iPhone / iPad

Safari
  1. Open aksquad.net in Safari (not Chrome — iOS Chrome can't install web apps)
  2. Tap the Share button at the bottom (or top on iPad)
  3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen
  4. Edit the name if you like (defaults to "AK Squad"), then tap Add

Apple deliberately routes all PWA installs through Safari's Share menu — there's no auto-prompt on iOS, and the option doesn't exist in iOS Chrome / Firefox / Edge.

Uninstalling

  • Windows / Mac / Linux: Open the installed AK app → ⋯ → Uninstall Arabian Knights, or right-click the app icon in Start menu / Launchpad / Activities and choose Uninstall.
  • Android: Long-press the AK icon on your home screen → Uninstall / Remove, same as a regular Android app.
  • iOS: Long-press the AK icon on your home screen → Remove AppDelete from Home Screen.

Uninstall doesn't delete your account, your forum posts, or any data — it's purely the shortcut and the standalone window setup. You can re-install any time.

I don't see the install option — what's wrong?
  • You're already running it as an app — browsers hide the install option once the site is installed. Check your taskbar / app drawer for an existing AK icon.
  • Engagement heuristic — Chrome wants you to have visited the site a couple of times across separate sessions before it offers install. Visit a different AK page, come back tomorrow, and the option will appear in the menu.
  • Old browser — Chrome 76+, Edge 79+, Safari 11.1+, Samsung Internet 11+ are the supported floors. Older browsers may not show install at all.
  • Firefox on desktop — doesn't support PWA install (Firefox dropped the feature in 2021). Use Chrome or Edge.
  • In-app browser — opening AK from inside Discord / Slack / Teams uses a stripped-down browser that doesn't support install. Open in your real browser first.
